Cèlia Margalef
Pianist
Cèlia Margalef Boquera is a Catalan pianist based in London, performing across the UK, Europe and beyond. A recent highlight was her solo recital at the Barcelona Obertura Ciutat de Clàssica Festival, presented at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona in March 2026. Her performance career has taken her across the United Kingdom, Europe and North America, with recent engagements in Mallorca, Lanzarote, Paris and Canada. In 2022, she made her debut performing J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations at the Toca’m Piano Festival in Tortosa.
Cèlia won First Prize at the John Longmire Beethoven Competition (2024) and the Trinity Laban English Song Competition (2025). She received the Best Spanish Pianist “Rosa Sabater” Prize at the 8th Vigo International Piano Competition in 2024, adjudicated by Martha Argerich and Cyprien Katsaris, and First Prize at the 48th “Joves Intèrprets de Piano de Catalunya” Competition in Vilafranca del Penedès. In 2026, she was a semifinalist at the Albert Roussel International Piano Competition in Paris. Her previous distinctions include a place in the semifinals of the International Piano Competition J. S. Bach in Saarbrücken in 2025. She has also been a finalist at the BPSE 31st Senior Intercollegiate Piano Competition at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
As a soloist, Cèlia has performed at leading venues and cultural institutions in Spain, including the Palau de la Música Catalana, Fundació Joan Miró, Auditori Pau Casals in El Vendrell, Auditori Josep Carreras in Vila-seca, Jardí dels Tarongers and Cercle del Liceu in Barcelona. Her UK appearances include Queen’s House, St James’s Church Piccadilly, Southwark Cathedral, St Bartholomew the Great, Chichester Cathedral, the Polish Hearth Club, the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul and Blackheath Halls. In France, she has appeared at Salle Cortot in Paris in connection with the Albert Roussel International Piano Competition. Her international appearances have also included a performance at the Garrick Theatre in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada.
Cèlia studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona with Tensy Krismant, supported by a full Ferrer-Salat Excellence Scholarship, and graduated top of her class. She subsequently completed both a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma with honours at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, studying with Professor Mikhail Kazakevich and supported by the Alfred and Therese Kitchin Scholarship.
She has participated in masterclasses with distinguished musicians including Paul Badura-Skoda, Edith Fischer, Dmitri Alexeev, Sir Stephen Hough, Akiko Ebi, Nikolay Medvedev, Leo Brouwer, Pascal Rogé, John Butt, Murray McLachlan, Dame Sarah Connolly, Wolfram Rieger and James Bailleau.
Alongside her performing career, Cèlia teaches piano and serves as organist at St John on Bethnal Green Church in London.
